What are the tests?

There are several tests we perform depending on the type of appliance.

There are several tests that can be done on your equipment, to ensure they are safe to use.  Different appliances require different tests and are categorised into different groups.

Class I Tests:

Class 1 tests are for equipment that has exposed metal parts or covers which potentially could conduct electricity should a fault occur.  We test to  check the earth is connected working properly and there is no power leakage. The tester will also tests the insulation resistance of the appliance, ensuring there is no danger of an electric shock from the item while in normal use.

Class II Tests:

Are performed on items that are not required to be connected to earth, and are protected by double insulation. We run a SUB leak test, insulation resistance test and a run leak test.

Extension Lead Test:

We give extension leads a continuity test, insulation resistance and polarity test. Extension leads with a 1.25mm2 csa should be no longer than 12 metres, and 1.5mm22 csa should be no longer than 15 metres unless fitted with a non removable RCD,

Plug In RCD Tests

This test is performed on plug in RCD ensuring they trip in time should a fault occur on the appliance that is plugged into them.

After each appliance is test, a label is printed with with the results of the PAT test  (PASS or FAIL) and is stuck on to the appliance or cable.

The results are also recorded in our database and a full report will be supplied to you in a PDF format.
